new NSW fire safety regulations old buildings

This article discusses how the new NSW fire safety regulations old buildings requirements do not change obligations for pre-1979 strata plans, but still highlight the importance of maintaining any existing fire equipment.

Question: If our older strata plan building doesn’t require an annual fire safety audit, do the upcoming changes impact our building?

Our pre-1979 strata plan building does not currently require an annual fire safety certificate. Do the upcoming changes to fire safety regulations in NSW law impact our building?

Answer: There is no change, however…..

It makes no change; however, if your building has fire equipment, it makes sense to maintain the equipment to meet the obligations under strata legislation. AS1851-2012 is the most relevant Australian Standard to use for this maintenance undertaking.
