This article is about potential issues when converting a centralised gas hot water to a electric heat pump in a strata building.
Question: What are the potential issues if we convert a centralised gas hot water system to an efficient electric heat pump system?
Answer: Most issues are manageable. However, there are a few items for consideration.
Yes, it’s possible. Most issues are manageable. A few items for consideration include:
- Who funds the conversion process and new hot water plant?
- What are the costs of terminating old gas accounts?
- What is the weight of electric heat pumps vs gas plants?
- Is there enough electricity capacity in the building?
- How will the owners corporation bill customers?
Each site is unique, and an independent review will be needed.
