The ABC is calling on the Australian public to share their strata stories.
The ABC Investigations team is seeking input from the strata sector. If you have seen something or know of dealings that you feel are not right, get in touch with the ABC via their online form and let them know. The ABC Investigations team have shared the following information:
The ABC launched a new investigation into the national strata management industry last week with a story on Netstrata, one of the country’s most high-profile strata management firms. You can read more about that story here: ‘Preying on people’s ignorance’: Strata firm caught charging excessive fees to home owners.
But the ABC has found that the issues are widespread and is calling on the Australian public — owners, industry insiders, regulators and others — to share their strata stories.
Three million Australians own apartments and belong to some 350,000 strata schemes around the country — the majority are run by professional strata management companies.
Higher density and more apartment buildings are being touted as critical to solving the housing crisis and the volume of money pouring into these strata firms is set to soar.
But for many years, apartment owners and advocates have raised concerns about hidden fees, conflicts of interests, being over-charged or side-deals struck between strata managers and contractors.

You should have taken this to NCAT and had a compulsory strata manager appointed.

We are managed by [—removed by admin–].
As sole committee member for many years, I raised many concerns about their practices, and was treated with disrespect and constant incorrect information from the strata manager. They did not welcome any questions, did not honour the SSMA 2015 and on two occasions, were forced to return overcharged funds under the threat of proceeding to NCAT. I was discouraged and berated when I continued to source our own quotes at a much more reasonable price to their contractors on every occasion, I was eventually “resigned” unlawfully by the strata manager having persuaded 2 members of the owners corporation to “accept my resignation” when I had NOT resigned as the committee and countless other bullying tactics were employed. There were two serious issues of fraud involving insurance claims and strata also chose the insurance policy without committee’s knowledge. This company is totally corrupt and continues to abuse its position. There is no Fiduciary duty towards us – they simply “feather their own nest”.
